Volunteers play an important part in ensuring the success of the IxDA Conferences. We can’t do it without you! Volunteers have a wide range of responsibilities such as staffing the information booth, helping with registration, assisting presenters with set up and room orientation as well as other activities crucial to the success of the conference.
Sign up to help support Interaction13 and embark on a journey toward defining our role as guides through social interactions, digital and beyond.
What does it mean to be a conference volunteer?
Being an Interaction13 conference volunteer means being a part of all the action! You are an asset to the conference and instantly become part of the community as attendees seek you out for information and assistance. Volunteers must be available throughout the entire conference, January 27-31, 2013, and contribute approximately 12-15 hours of service during that time. Volunteers must also attend a mandatory orientation session and daily 15-minute check-in meetings during the conference, which will give volunteers the opportunity to connect with each other.
Why would I want to be an on-site conference volunteer?
- Instant community within the conference
- Exposure to prospective employers
- Numerous opportunities for face time with notable personalities in the UX field
- Free attendance for workshops or tutorials at which you are staffing.
- Discounted registration.
- Face time with the IxDA Board and Conference planning committee.
- Special events only for conference volunteers. More details to come!
Do I qualify as an on-site conference volunteer?
Volunteers are selected based on the following criteria:
- Full-time college or graduate students, including Spring 2013 graduates.
- Part-time students enrolled in a degree or certificate program.
- Unemployed or under-employed individuals.
- Employed Individuals attending the conference at their own expense.
How many on-site conference volunteers are needed?
For the Interaction13 conference, we will need approximately 30 volunteers. Slots will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis, with priority given to full-time students. If we receive a lot of interest in the available volunteer positions, we may create a waitlist. If you find yourself on the waitlist, don’t worry! Several slots always open up in the months preceding the conference so we may still need you. Please make sure to keep an eye out for the emails we send so that you stay updated on your status and any next steps.
How do I sign up to be an on-site conference volunteer?
We have received so many applications! No more new applications are being accepted at this time. Those who are on the wait list may still have a chance to volunteer. We will be in touch with you if a spot opens up.
Does IxDA cover travel and lodging for on-site conference volunteers?
Unfortunately, IxDA cannot sponsor travel or lodging for conference volunteers. We encourage you to share rooms at the conference hotel and will help you find a roommate, if needed. Also, we are looking into local hostels and lodging hosts as potential alternatives to the conference lodging.
